MATT PERRY - 5 Once guilty of horrible hesitation in defence, a real no-no for international full-backs. His replacement Iain Balshaw couldn't make an impact, either, though he made few errors.
DAFYDD JAMES - 5 Badly missed tackle gave Roff one of his two tries. Made a fine break in the first half that was spoiled when he failed to link with support.
BRIAN O'DRISCOLL - 8 Could still make breaks, despite even tighter marking that peaked with one huge hit from Nathan Grey. One run, chip and athletic catch in the first half quite brilliant.
ROB HENDERSON - 5 This time his power was highlighted in a late shoulder charge, and he twice gave the ball away with aimless kicks.
JASON ROBINSON - 8 Given little ball, his contribution was all in tigerish tackling and the joining of rucks. Form quite undented by team's slide to defeat.
JONNY WILKINSON - 6 Near-flawless first half, in which attacking running caught eye. His form went surprisingly downhill after that interception of his injudicious long pass.
ROB HOWLEY - 7 One or two errors, but did well to keep clearing things up under increasing pressure. His darting runs in the first half did much to unsettle the Australian defence.
TOM SMITH - 6 His usual reliable performance, marred only by an early penalty given away at ruck. Got through plenty of work in defence and in the maul.
KEITH WOOD - 8 Loss was no fault of his. The best of Wood was seen in his ball-handling, athletic running and tackling. His throwing in, however, was not as immaculate as last week.
PHIL VICKERY - 6 The scrum folded on his side when Australia stole the ball and scored their second try. Got through his usual quota of work in the loose, but not to be his day.
MARTIN JOHNSON - 6 He was challenged in the line-out and, despite a few rumbles in the first half, was unable to impose himself fully around field.
DANNY GREWCOCK - 6 Maintained reputation with one fine open-field run and pass but was reduced, like the rest of his team-mates, to suffering the Australian punishment in the second half.
RICHARD HILL- 7 Strong and reliable, heading for an influential second half when his nose was hit by a swinging elbow. Martin Corry, his replacement, was powerless in a beaten pack.
NEIL BACK - 6 A 'Leicester' try from a line-out drive, but not as visible as usual in loose. Lost the much-hyped war on the floor to his opposite number George Smith.
SCOTT QUINNELL - 7 Rampaging runs in a great first half, but his second half deteriorated and his frustrations were evident in his shoulder charge on Latham.
