This month's video nasty: Alanis Morissette's 'Eight Easy Steps'

Sunday October 17, 2004
The Observer

1. Ahoy there! I am Alanis Morissette, and here you see me a-jammin' with my group. I am singing my new song, 'Eight Easy Steps'.

2. Here I am again - Alanis Morissette - in a brilliantly iconic video from earlier in my career. And yet - as you can't see in print but you'll have to trust me, because it's my video - I am still singing 'Eight Easy Steps'. How queer!

3. Crikes-a-blimey! Now I'm in a truly ancient video from even earlier in my career, on a 'date' with a pre-Friends Matt LeBlanc. My mouth is moving and, yep, you guessed it, 'Eight Easy Steps' is coming out!

4. Ah, I think I've got it now. They've cleverly taken old footage of me and put a new mouth on my old face, a bit like when they had the viewer phone-ins on Big Brother's Little Brother.

5. Aw, now I'm a cute little weeny baby, yet I still can't stop singing 'Eight Easy Steps'. Mother says I began tossing long before I could speak, you know.
