race lc white, black, as noun or adj. Do not use 'ethnic' to mean black or Asian people, and avoid 'immigrants', a word that is now loaded with negative meanings, unless that is exactly what you are writing about. Just as in the Balkans or anywhere else, African peoples should be called just that, rather than 'ethnic groups' or 'tribes'. Do not refer to a person's colour unless it has a specific bearing on the story. Say 'African-Caribbean' rather than 'Afro-Caribbean'rack torture; wrack seaweed; nerve-racked, sea-wrack racket all senses, including tennis Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live, 6 Music raft what Huck Finn and Jim were on when they floated down the river; 'a raft of measures' is both meaningless and a cliche. Avoid ranks for police, army and navy, spell out in full first time, then just use the surname rayon re/re- do not hyphenate unless it looks ugly (so re-use not reuse); provides a double 'e' (re-examine not reexamine); or could be mistaken for another word (i.e The Happy Mondays have re-formed, but are unlikely to have reformed, speaking of which...) reform means to change for the better. Thus, while the Great Reform Act is, at a push, correct, a new set of education reforms is not - or not necessarily so refute is not a synonym for deny or rebut. Unless obviously Roman Catholic from the text, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Brentwood, Clifton, Dunkeld, Galloway, Hexham and Newcastle, Leeds, Menevia, Middlesbrough, Motherwell, Northampton, Nottingham, Paisley and Salford.
In British setting use Roman Catholic in describing Roman Catholic organisations and individuals and wherever an Anglican could argue ambiguity (eg 'the Catholic Church'). But Catholic is enough in most overseas contexts (eg. Ireland, France, Italy, Latin America). Romania royal lc at all mentions, including the royal family Royal Institute of International Affairs
